An Afternoon with Baggu at Rogan

On Sunday afternoon, an artist from BAGGU will be stationed at Rogan flagship on Bowery, hand-painting the brand’s super-soft, covetable Leather Pouches with emoticon inspired faces: choose your eyes, a nose, and a mouth to create a custom emotional accessory!

Artist Alley @ Extra Place / Works by Sonni

Works by Sonni is the second exhibit in a rotating public art program for Artist Alley @ Extra Place that reclaims the concrete sidewalk as a blank canvas. The exhibit is the latest in a series of temporary art installations in atypical locations in the East Village through the 4th Arts Block’s ArtUp program.

Balloon Factory at Japan Premium Beef

In 2011, Caroline Linder, Lisa Smith, Michael Savona, Thomas Moran, and Steven Haulenbeek created an on-site Balloon Factory at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. This year, the handmade balloons come to New York, designed and fabricated especially for Japan Premium Beef and the Noho Design District.

Bec Brittain + Fort Standard

Bec Brittain and Fort Standard (Gregory Buntain and Ian Collings) are joining forces for an exhibition on the ground floor of a large industrial space at 22 Bond Street. The installation will be a combination of new lighting by Bec Brittain and new furniture and lighting by Fort Standard, along with the debut of a special collaborative project designed just for this show.

Fort Makers at Various Projects

The design studio and Project no. 8 showroom Various Projects displays its recent projects, plus an installation of Fort Makers’ Candlestick City. Made by artist Noah Spencer, Candlestick City is constructed out of geometrically cut and polished mixed woods, appealing to anyone who was a fan of building blocks, Lincoln Logs, or Legos as a kid.

London Underground

For Tom Dixon’s first satellite show in the States, the UK design studio will unite British eccentricity with classic New York cool, outfitting the darkened basement of an old Noho theater with a Luminosity installation, a ‘60s Pop-inspired broadcasting station from Surface magazine, and a pop-up shop by Fab.com.

Makers & Brothers

For MAKING 01, the Irish homegoods brand will highlight the making of a simple stool, looking at process as an intellectual and physical activity. Wicklow woodworker James Carroll will be on-site, crafting a series of green wooden stools for use and purchase, and a collection of Irish objects will accompany the installation.

Modern Craft at the Merchant’s House Museum

Built in 1832, the Merchant’s House is New York City’s only family home preserved intact, inside and out, from the 19th century. A group of designers working with modern craft techniques — including Paul Loebach, Sit and Read, Louis Lim, Nine Stories Furniture, and Colgate Searle — have infiltrated the house’s time-capsule interior with a beautiful juxtaposition of contemporary objects.

Natural Selection

Seattle-based Ladies & Gentlemen Studio (Jean Lee & Dylan Davis) will launch a new collection of furniture and lighting at the Zero + Maria Cornejo flagship in their first appearance at Noho Design District. The show “Natural Selection” explores the relationship between the natural and the man-made through basic materials and forms.

Noho Next

For 2012, Noho’s third annual emerging talent showcase partners with the American Design Club. A handful of its members have been chosen by Sight Unseen to install their latest works in storefront windows throughout Noho, including Farrah Sit + Bryce Wymer, Emily Rothschild, Jen Turner, Iacoli & McAllister + MOCIUN, and So Takahashi.

Official NDD Celebration Featuring Lindsey Adelman

This year’s official Noho Design District celebration takes place at the Bowery Hotel on Sunday, May 20, from 8PM to 11PM, and features an installation by Lindsey Adelman of items from her 2012 collection, Dusk to Dawn. Adelman will create vignettes of objects inspired by what grows on the dark side.

Once Removed

Curated by Jaime Kopke and former Dwell editor Jordan Kushins, Once Removed invites nine designers — including Atelier Takagi, Brendan Ravenhill, Craighton Berman, Rachel Boxnboim, and Studio Swine — to create a new piece inspired by personal snapshots from the daily life of another designer in the group.

In conjunction with ICFF, the American lighting brand Roll & Hill will open a temporary 3,500-square-foot showroom on the ground floor of 2 Cooper Square, featuring the company’s full collection along with new products for 2012, including Blow by Lindsey Adelman, Mini Endless by Jason Miller, Rudi by Lukas Peet, and Silk Road by Jonah Takagi.

Sonos Listening Library

The Sonos Listening Library at The Standard, East Village is a custom space debuting one-of-a-kind furniture and design pieces along with Sonos home audio speakers, to create the optimal high-quality music-listening experience. The focal point is a custom Sonos “Soundalier” created by Kiel Mead and Lindsey Adelman.
